Bladder infections
Information Everyone Should Know About Bladder Infection
Bladder infections happen to just about everyone at least once in their lives. It is not a pleasant condition, but if symptoms are addressed when they are first felt, you have a good chance of getting rid of it in a day or two. Some people rarely if ever suffer with a bladder infection, but others have them frequently and there are lots of things you can do to manage your symptoms or avoid contracting an infection completely.
Who Can Get A Bladder Infection
Anyone can suffer with a bladder infection though women seem to suffer from this condition much more than men do. Women have a shorter urethra than men and this makes it easier for bacteria to travel quickly and easily to the bladder. Children are known to suffer with this type of infection too.
Even your pet can come down with this kind of infection. It isn’t rare for your puppy, your kitten or even your grown pet to contract this. You will notice in your pet that they are relieving themselves more often whether it be in the house or outside. You can take your pet to the vet and have it checked out to see if medication will do the trick.
What Are The Signs?
Feeling pain or burning when you urinate is one of the first indications that you have a bladder infection. You may also experience pain in your pelvic area or a feeling of pressure. You may have the urge to eliminate constantly and not much is coming out when you do go. You might notice that when you do urinate it has a strong or foul odor or may appear to be cloudy.
If you have pain in your lower back or your side, or if you have a fever, it may be that the infection has moved into your kidneys. Another sign of this more serious condition can be blood in your urine. It may be a little, or it may be a lot, but when you see this it is time to go to the doctor and step up treatment.
What Are The Treatments?
The first time you visit your doctor, he will more than likely prescribe antibiotics to fight your bladder infection. You can also find some over the counter remedies that might work for you as well.
